Cherylas 1470nm PLDD Laser for Lumbar Slipped Disc treatment
Herniated disc (slipped disc) is a condition that can occur in any part of your spine, but most commonly in the lower back (lumbar spine). The intervertebral disc consists of an inner “jelly-like” nucleus pulposus, which encased by annulus fibrosus. When the annulus fibrosus becomes weakened, nucleus presses against the annulus, causing the disc to bulge or protrude outward. This is knowns as disc herniation.
Symptoms vary greatly, patient may experience a low backache or no pain at all if the herniated disc is not pressing on a nerve. When lumbar disc herniation occurs, pressuring on one or several nerves that contribute to the sciatic nerve can cause pain, burning, tingling and numbness that radiates from the buttock in the leg and sometimes into the foot.
PLDD (percutaneous laser disc decompression) is a medical procedure which is aimed for the treatment of small-medium size hernias of the intervertebral disc using laser energy. The theoretical objective is to reduce the intradiscal pressure in the nucleus pulposus in such a way that the herniated fragment can redirect to the interior of the disc, reducing compression of the nerve root, which reduces pain, and therefore improves the patient’s morbidity and quality of life.
The advantages of the laser discectomy over conventional surgery
Performed as an out patient procedure
Do not preclude alternative surgical options
Reduced risk of complications
Usually provide immediate relief of symptoms
Reduced soft tissue injury
No bone is sacrificed
No epidural fibrosis [scarring about the cord] as a result of the
surgical procedure
Operated with 400um/600um fiber optic, Chearylas 1470nm laser system is a versatile, multifunctional
medical diode laser machine ideal for minimal invasive PLDD.
The Cherylas 1470nm, with larger water absorption properties appears to have an effect on the entire nucleus pulposus and not only in surrounding tissue of laser fiber (carbonization zone). During PLDD, disc volume is minimally decreased, however, disc pressure can be significantly lowered. When using laser for disc decompression, a small amount of nucleus pulposus evaporates.

Features:
High Quality Laser Diode Technology
Laser diodes are the heart of the laser unit and have been selected for high levels of quality, efficiency and reliability. Featuring solid state technology, they are manufactured in Germany by Lumics, Inc. which is a recognized worldwide leader for producing the highest performing diodes. This ensures superior operating life resulting in long term savings in operating costs.
Maximum Range Of Power(Watts )Level
Multiple power (watts) levels are available in different power configuration models from 1-60 watts. These power (watts) levels can provide significantly more energy than other medical & surgical diode lasers. The higher power (watts) level laser models provide faster treatment times and delivery of optimal energy dosages, an enhanced ability to treat difficult conditions, and enhanced clinical outcomes.
Interactive User Interface
Treatments can be administered and managed with three options: 1) Manual Protocols using the power level, operating mode and timer selections; 2) Preset Protocols that utilize a built-in database of protocols that are organized by anatomy and condition; 3) Custom Protocols that allows the user to create their own unique protocols.
Choice Of Different Operating Modes
Two operating modes Continuous Wave (CW) or Pulsed Modes (50khzFrequencies) are built into the diode laser equipment. The specific power level (watts) can be adjusted through progress bar on the color touchscreen. The Pulsewidth can be operated using different units, like you can set duration 50us, interval 1ms.
